What is a Philosophy or Why a Philosophy?

One of my good friends has recently asked me to comment on

"Philosophy is the outcome of human weakness or limitation of knowledge"

Initially it seemed too far fetched... and i replied accordingly with

Me1 : first level definition : Philosophy is man's attempt to explain the seeming randomness of his being
extreme weird defintion: Philosophy is an attempt by the mundane to feel near to God in understanding all .. your definition lies somewhere between mine... so it should be true ....

But, it was unsettling , because i couldnt digest my own words. Reason?.. i was framing a philosophy (or maybe an idea) myself . For those who are new , one thing that defines my thought is "Why?" (at every level). This very "Why?" asked me :(Duality comes into play)

Me2: Why did you conclude at that very level of definition ?
Me1: Ye, why did i even want to define it? ohk , that means, why does one need a philosophy ?
Me2: go ahead... why do we need a philosophy ?

here i go,
"the whole definition of Philosophy depends on the purpose of a philosophy ... they are all coind to abate the confusion/turmoil/hunger or simply to justify your doings....
but i dont understand one thing,if a smart mind coins one philosophy how can it stick to it? even slightest of multiplicity in character can contradict the former thought....
so a philosophy is born when one chooses to end the mental debate for peace (or) when he is too ignorant to go beyond his own thought, thus being limited by his knowledge....
which boils down to your definition,..."Philosophy is the outcome of human weakness or limitation of knowledge" " ,,,

I had to end it here, otherwise i would be inconclusive. Am satisfied that atleast that my idea on the philosophy didnt pain me further, because it is so in affirmation with what i had done ,'to end the train of thoughts at some point before it created more damage than satisfaction.'
